Animal Adoption Process

Thinking of adding another family into your home? Remember, owning a pet means providing essentials such as a balanced diet, litter, socialization and veterinary care. Please follow the steps below to be considered an applicant for one of our Rescues available for adoption.

Step 1 – Taking a look at our Rescues currently available for adoption

Please take a look at both the Dogs and Cats we have available for adoption. At the Safe and Sound Project we try to update the pictures of our available dogs for adoption on our website on a weekly basis (once a dog has been adopted, we will do our best to remove their photo as soon as possible). Initially, we will process applications from within our geographic radius (tri city area). We put an endless number of hours into socializing the adult dogs to gain their trust and hand raising young orphans, often becoming very attached. These rescues have a special place in our hearts and we want to ensure they return for any needed vet care (vaccines, spay/neuter surgery etc.) that they deserve. Our biggest reward is receiving updates from their new pet parents and getting to see them grow into happy and healthy loved pets.  After a couple of weeks if we have not been able to place them, we open adoption applications to further surrounding areas. We understand that this may be frustrating, but please try to understand where we are coming from.

We have included a bit of information below each photo to learn a little more about them! Once you know who you’d like to come meet (and you can put more than one name down), please proceed to the following step.

Step 2 – Adoption Application

Please fill out our adoption application found below. Once filled out, please allow 2-5 business days for our Adoption Team to get in touch with you where we will proceed with the next steps. Only applicants who have been approved to come in for a viewing will be contacted by phone or email.

If you are looking to apply for a cat rescue, you can find the feline adoption application here! Process still remains the same for our cat rescues as well.

Step 3 – Phone Interview

We will then call to have a chat with you over the phone where we can let you know our adoption fees, a little more info about the rescue you are applying for, and any other questions/concerns we have at this time based on the application submitted. You are encouraged at this time as well to ask any questions you may have for us at this time in regards to our Rescue Centre in general, about the process, or about the Rescue you are inquiring about.
We will then proceed to book the first viewing during this phone call.

Step 4 – First Viewing

This is where you will get the chance to meet the rescue(s) of your dreams! You will have a chance to get to know the Adoption Coordinators as well, of course. In this first viewing, you can ask any and all questions you may have about us or about the rescue(s) in general. We may have some questions for you as well in terms of your application. This is the perfect setting for some much needed one-on-one time with the rescues available for adoption.

Step 5- Application/2nd Viewing

We will only proceed with a second viewing as needed. If you are interested in a more timid & afraid dog, it may be recommended to come in for a 2nd time to view. Or if you have children and/or other dogs at home, we may ask for you to come in with them to ensure everyone gets along well.

Please allow 3-5 business days for us to process applications after the first viewing. We want to try to honor those who have viewings booked after yours, or those who have emailed in inquiring about the rescue(s) we have available and we like to keep the application process open for each rescue for about 7 days. However, please do not hesitate to call and check the status of your application anytime!

Step 6- Adoption

Once you have been approved for the adoption of one of our rescues (yay!), we will have you come in on a day or time of your choosing where a Doctor will come in to speak with you about any possible concerns (if any) they may have at this moment in time. Once the paperwork has been signed, you and your new family member are free to go home!

*If you are looking to apply for a cat rescue, you can find the feline adoption application here! Process still remains the same for cat adoptions.

Canine Adoption Application
Please be advised that filling out this application does not guarantee your ownership of the animal described below. In the event of receiving more than one exceptional application on a rescue, a lottery system may be used to find the best suited home for the animal. By filling out the application, you are ensuring all information provided is true and the most up to date. Please be advised that no animals will be given out on a "trial basis" without adoption paperwork and payment being completed in full. If you feel the animal is not working out in your household, you may return it to us and payment will be refunded in full up to 7 days after adoption. If the animal becomes injured or ill during the time he/she is with you, it is your responsibility to cover any medical costs incurred. All information is kept private to the Adoption Coordinators only. We do not disclose any of the information provided to any other agent or facility.
